It was an interesting week. Tiring, as the weather is not only hot, but rainy and humid. Thursday, I met with an old cronie, who moved with me from adult corrections to kiddie corrections. The word is that the Feds will take over the kiddie place in a few weeks, and the evil idiots up top are out. He was offered several positions back in the adult prison, and extended the offer to me also. I said I thought I was retiring soon and would not continue to work for the State, but that I would do some contract work for him. Then, when I arrived home, there was a msg from the psychiatrist at the private prison. The corporate CMO has resigned, and he submitted my name to the CEO as his replacement. The psychiatrist also submitted my name. I phoned the CEO and gave him my salary requirements. Quite honestly, they can find someone for less money than I want. I will go through the motions of formally submitting an application, but it will not pan out. On the home front, my program is slowly being dismantled by the new psychiatrist, who is clueless. She is used to working w Alzheimers pts and has no idea what she is doing. We have the worst of the worst kids, and she will fail miserably. So, I am back to the original plan ... retire the end of October. I am working on my trip still and will stay at my favorite hotel in Barcelona, the Renaissance, and am still trying to decide whether to stay on the island of Venice, or closer to the airport for the return stay.

Congrats on your imminent retirement! That's very exciting, be sure to keep us posted on how it's coming along. The vacation in Europe sounds great too. Mom, Jessi, and I stayed in Venice for a couple of days back in 2002; we really liked our hotel (good location in Venice, local feel), so if you'd like a hotel recommendation just let me know. Glad to hear things are mostly going well! --Jen
Thanks, Jenni. What's the name of the hotel?
